I believe that we all have a place where we want to experience more freedom, a wider expression, a more rooted feeling that who we are and what we’re doing are well aligned.

Why Work With A Coach?

I’ve worked with CEOs and the senior leadership of multi-million dollar companies

MacArthur Fellows (that legendary “MacArthur genius” award)

The widest range of cultural creatives - from solo artists to podcasters, theater companies, and major media networks

Not-for-profit leaders and staff

People who are questioning their relationships with substances, compulsive behaviors, or navigating a life of recovery

People who are trying to figure out how to get their boss to see their value so they can get the raise they deserve

Boards, volunteer groups, advisory councils, and church elders

People at crossroads - be it career, life stage transitions or their relationships (with themselves or others) and need a neutral outside perspective

I have for-profit, non-profit and personal tiers, so let’s talk about your situation, what you want to achieve and start down the path to get you there.

Say Hello

I believe we already have what we need inside us. Sometimes, we have to reach inside to tap our curiosity, courage and determination to achieve new insight, acquire new tools, or use the tools we already have in more creative, effective ways.

If we could do it ourselves we would. Sometimes, we’re blocked and don’t see a way forward. We may be repeating unhelpful patterns, or finding ourselves in undesirable situations, wondering how we got there (again.) We may have something we’re trying to say to say, but we just can’t get it out in a manner that allows us to be heard and get what we want in the world.

This is where coaching makes a difference.

Think of coaching this way - we all have a back of the head, a part of us that we can’t see when we look in the mirror. It’s 100% us, it’s there just as it should be, and the world sees it when it relates to us. What if you were able to identify those unseen parts that were influencing your relationships in the world?

Our coaching relationship is not about changing who you are. It’s about discovering what’s there.

For a swimmer, a coach’s instruction can be as simple as “turn your hand in a few inches when you enter the water.” The coach is helping the swimmer find greater efficiency in their stroke so they get the most from each effort. Same hand, same arm, same water, but less resistance and more power. What if there are ways you could exert less effort, have less friction in the world, and get more of what you want?

Together, we find ways for you to get where you want to go. And we find ways to stop spending time, effort, and emotional energy on the things that aren’t helping.

Our coaching relationship exists for that reason alone - to help you get more of what you want.

I believe that we all have a place where we want to experience a little more freedom, a wider expression, a more rooted feeling that who we are and what we’re doing are better aligned.

We want to struggle less and achieve more. Sometimes that’s a move up the ladder. Or seeing your non-profit better fulfill its mission. It could be the experience of feeling less drained at the end of the day and knowing there’s something that could be different and better - but you can’t put your hand on it.

I believe our work can help you get away from all of the labels, recognize that the past got you here, but there’s such a miraculous future ahead. If you also believe that, let’s talk about investing in yourself so who you are, how you are living your life, and how you are received in the world are fully aligned.

Jad Abumrad and Mikel Ellcessor right after launching Radiolab

Why do I believe this?

At 19, I was the senior trainer in my college radio station. I helped over a hundred people my age develop a basic mastery over the technical parts of announcing, planning what to say, and running an airshift. I noticed something change, however, when we finished the checklist to get them ready for their qualifying test and the conversation expanded. I kept hearing these 18, 19 and 20 year olds grappling with similar questions

”How can I be myself?”

“How can I not be so nervous?”

“How do I master this new thing, so I can advance and do something bigger?”

“How do I stop feeling like such a dork when I let it rip and say why I believe this is a band that everyone should love?”

Every stereotype about what happens in a radio station is true.

Over 30 years, working with people to find their center, find their expression, find their peace of mind as they stretched into new territory became so much more rewarding than any of my own on-air work.

It took me years to find the language for this feeling, but things clicked when I discovered what it meant to have a coach’s heart. That was the space that made me want to sit and listen deeply, embracing what it means to be a true partner as people discover how to bring their dreams, skills, and passion together in the face of the circumstances, the doubts, and the unseen anchors that kept them stuck.

Along the way I’ve been blessed to be in some extraordinary rooms with inspirational people.

I’m looking forward to meeting you.
